I want to start introducing you to some very important people in our lives. As the old addage goes, "It takes a villiage to raise a child." That's very true, and we couldn't do it alone. We get loads of help from family, neighbors and teachers. We are constantly amazed at how the Lord looks out for us and surrounds us with people who truly love us and want to help.
This is Jesse, my next door neighbor. We moved into the neighborhood in March, and we were immediately greeted by AWESOME neighbors who seem to have been suited to our exact needs. Jesse, wouldn't ya know it, has worked with autistic kids for years, and currently works at Carter's Riverside preschool. She truly loves Carter, and sees him and us as a blessing in her life. Can I just say, the feeling is SO mutual! Carter has connected with her in a way that is rare for him. I think he has a gift that enables him to be able to tell who really cares for him, and who is just dealing with him for the time being. He can say her name (with a cute little lisp) and is always excited to see her. He knows when he goes to her house he gets to watch Cars and eat "pah-corn".
The neighbors on the other side of us also have experience with autism, and are just very caring and understanding people. They also happen to have an 8 year old son who just happens to get along very well with my Logan, who is also 8.
The other night, my hubby was not feeling very well, and we were able to call on the fathers of these families to come over and administer a priesthood blessing to him. Wow! We are so blessed by the lives of these good people! You wanna know how to be a good neighbor? Do it like that.
Kathryn, I'm so proud of you for the things you're doing. You are such a great example. Carter is a special boy, and he was sent to special parents. I'm so happy to know you were guided to live in such a good place with caring, understanding neighbors. We love you!
ReplyDeleteNeighbors can either make a place or break it. I could careless how fancy the house, if you have horrible people living around you
ReplyDeleteyou'd be better off in a small shack.
