The Beginning
It was brought to my attention that this blog is lacking a very important piece of the puzzle: the first one! I need to tell you about what Carter was like as a baby, when I noticed something was wrong, who I called, what I did, how I reacted to the diagnosis. So here it is, probably brought to you over the course of several posts; The Beginning.
Carter came to us two weeks early (all pregnant mommies give me a "Woot Woot!") in the merry month of March. We were overjoyed! He was perfect! Ten fingers, ten toes, everything inside working like a well-oiled machine, everything outside simply beautiful. I could tell from the ultrasound pictures even before he was born that he had my nose. Chubby little cabbage patch style. We soon discovered he had his dad's eyes, and sprouty little porcupine hair.
He progressed pretty normally at first, rolling over when he was about a month old, babbling and cooing. Then we started to notice slight, minor delays not uncommon in normal children. We chalked it up to him "taking things at his own pace", as my other two children, who have no significant delays, have done. You know, feeding himself at a year instead of nine months. Having a hard time with fine motor skills- not being able to stack blocks or hold a crayon. We brought up our concerns at our regular pediatric appointments, and he thought what we thought, "No need for concern yet, he's just taking his time."
...to be continued...(in other words, my kids are driving me crazy and I can't write any more just now.)
